Cafeteria Chronicles: Port Townsend School District 50 (Port Townsend, WA)

The school nutrition team at Port Townsend School District 50 in Port Townsend, WA, knew their school gardens had great potential. After securing grant funding through the Healthy Meals Incentives (HMI), the district was able to hire a year-round gardener and new equipment to process fresh food. These improvements allow students at Port Townsend to plant and harvest lettuce, peas, beans, cabbage, kale, basil, berries and potatoes, totaling over 5,000 pounds of fresh produce this year!
