Welcome to Cafeteria Chronicles. This is where we share what actually happens in the cafeterias behind the press releases. Every district featured here has been recognized by the Healthy Meals Incentives (HMI) initiative, either as a Recognition Awardee, an HMI grantee, or both. The stories range from single-kitchen rural districts to large urban systems, with the common thread that each team made a concrete change and measured the result.

Use this hub to browse by topic: district profiles, award-category deep dives, and practical guides on nutrition education, marketing, and director-level advice.

About the series Cafeteria Chronicles is produced by Action for Healthy Kids in partnership with the USDA's Food and Nutrition Service. Each post is reviewed by the featured district's school nutrition director before publication.
